Michael, how have you dealt w Performance anxiety? « Thread Started on Oct 10, 2009, 3:35pm »
Hi Michael
I have played live before, unfortunatly to my whole school, better when you don't know em. The performance went ok, hit about 80% of what I wanted and everyone said it was great and they enjoyed it. But as always I post-analyse my perfromances and felt It could have gone better, like nailing that 99% if i wasn't so nervous. Didn't help by playing Paul Gilbert stuff mind you, lol.
How do you deal with performance anxiety? warm up in front of the audience?

Michael started to perform live at 10 years old and at this age, a lot of people are rather 'extrovert'. I guess he grew up being used to perform before an audience and that is why he is so comfortable playing live.

well when he was saying on one of his dvds about when he debuted the Double-Guitar he was shaking cause he was that nervous it wouldnt work, but he did it anyway and everyone loved it, so even though he might be fine, when he was doing something for the first time he still felt nervous, ive played infront of people before but i was fine cause i mostly just looked at my pedalboard and swayed from side to side

There's only one way to deal with it. You just go out and play. At the end of the day, it's all about having fun with it. Don't stress yourself out about past performances. Once you start treating music as a job instead of your own personal outlet, you'll frustrate yourself, your songwriting will go out the window, and your performance will suffer because of it. Take it from someone who used to treat music as a job.
Just get up on the stage and jam out. Don't try to cope with being nervous by looking at the ground or something like that. (No offense Adam) The audience knows when you're nervous and they know when you're having fun. So just have fun with it.
